The RAP Scholarships were created to recognize the accomplishments of Alberta high school students participating in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), and to encourage them to continue their apprenticeship training after completing high school. In 2012, the RAP scholarships were expanded to include students who have completed a Career and Technology Studies (CTS) apprenticeship pathway. 500 RAP/CTS Scholarships of $1,000 each are available annually.
Any student who was registered as a RAP student or has completed a CTS apprenticeship pathway, has completed the requirements for high school graduation, has at least one period of technical training remaining, and who has NOT YET received a RAP scholarship is invited to apply. For information on eligibility criteria, the selection process, industry donors, past recipients and the application form, click on RAP/CTS Scholarships.
Introduced in 2008, the Pre-Apprentice Scholarships are designed to encourage those completing pre-apprenticeship training programs to continue in the trades and complete their apprenticeship training. For eligibility criteria, information on the selection process, industry donors and more, click on Pre-Apprentice Scholarships.
Introduced in 2008, the Top Apprentice Scholarships recognized apprentices who have achieved both a very high academic standing in their technical training and a strong employer recommendation.
Apprentices do not apply for the Top Apprentice Scholarships. The Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board determines the top apprentice for each scholarship based on an apprentice's technical training marks and other selection criteria established by the donor. There are 20 Top Apprentice Scholarships with a value of $1,500 each.
The Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board Chairman's Award of Excellence provides formal recognition of individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their trade or occupation through outstanding service as a member of the industry advisory system. The Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board holds an annual awards ceremony to pay tribute to outstanding members of the Apprenticeship and Industry Training system with the Top Employer Award, Top Employer of Aboriginal Apprentices Award, Top Instructor Award, and Top Apprentice Award for each trade.
